Under: Routes

This route starts in Currow, which is a village situated in Mid-Kerry, about 3 miles from Farranfore and 5 miles from Castleisland. It is a route that is dear to my heart given that it is in my homeland and I try to get out on this route as often as I can. This routes offers mostly flat territory on quiet country roads with little traffic when away from the town centers in the route.

Leaving Currow head along side the church in the direction of Scartaglin. Alot of these roads have no signage so if you are not familiar with the route it is better to avoid the smallest of roads on this route and follow what signposts you can. About 1.5 miles into the route there is a left turn and take it. 3.8 miles into the cycle there is a crossroads where you go straight on. The next major event on this route is a T junction, with options here to go left for Castleisland or right into Cordal to make the route slightly longer. Cordal is a small village with a left turn opposite it’s church which we follow here. This part of the route is very poorly signed and please follow route as below for directions on how to get to Castleisland.

In Castleisland, take the Tralee road. After two miles on this road there is a signpost to follow Gortatlae. Follow this road and take a left turn near a small brick wall on the left, a further 2 miles on. This road will eventually bring you out onto the main Farranfore to Tralee road where we take a left for Farranfore. At farranfore we turn left again following the signpost to Currow.

I would be very familiar with this route and have cycled on it or various combinations of it for many years. I love the perce that it offers and any route like this that can provide me with relatively good surface roads and little traffic will always get in my good books.
