Registrations are now being taken for the Radio Kerry Ring of Kerry Charity Cycle 2010! Taking place on Saturday, July 3rd 2010, the event, sponsored by Radio Kerry’s Community Fund, is the biggest one day charity fundraising event in Munster and will see thousands of leisure cyclists experience a fun and rewarding day’s cycling, while at the same time fundraising for worthy Charities.

Libary users who cycle to Kerry Library Branches during Bike Week will not be charged to borrow books. Cyclists must show their cycling helmets to staff to avail of this offer. As a reminder Bike week runs from 13th – 20th June.

The West Cork 200 Challenge Sportive will be held on Sunday 20th of June. 200/100k routes on offer. More event details on www.westcork200.com.

If you have a mountain bike that you mostly use on the road, consider changing to slick/road tyres from your existing knobbly mountain bike tyres. The traditional mountain bikes tyres are generally not made for road use, especially when you plan on covering some long distance spins. Changing your tyres will decrease your rolling resistance on the road and make travelling by road on a mountain bike feel like less work.

Before buying your new tyres, check your existing tyres to get your wheel size, it is normally 26 inches on a standard mountain bike. Your local bike shope will be a good place for advise on the correct tyres and bike setup you need to suit what type of cycling you do. Changing will make a big  difference.

An Post Tour de Burren 2010 ready to Kick Off.

In 2009, the An Post Tour de Burren attracted 850 cyclists over three leisure distances – 10km , 60km and 160km.  This year, the Tour (part of the An Post Cycle Series), will once again attract a large number, including Sean Kelly and Ian Dempsey,  to this leisure cycle in North Clare on the 19th June.  The three routes will cater for all abilities. Closing date for applications is Friday 11th June.

Currow CC Weekend of Cycling June 12th and 13th, 2010

Headquarters at Currow Community Centre, Near Castleisland, Co Kerry.A new circuit is being used this year which is a shorter version of the normal one. Total Prize Fund in excess of 2,000 euro.

Sign on is from 9am on Sunday Morning from the community centre in currow. The leisure tour will begin at 10am sharp to avoid all traffic heading to the Kerry – Cork Game in Killarney.

The route for the leisure tour is from Currow – Farranfore – Killarney – Killorglin – Castlemaine – Tralee – Castleisland and back to Currow, which is approximately 90K.

There will be an option of a shorter route on the day also.

This tour is always well supported and has excellent facilities and refreshments.

Hopefully the weather will be as nice as last year.
