This gruelling climb is infamous to cyclists throughout the county and is a challenge to even the most battle hardened. It is a category 1 climb that has been involved in many a Rás Tailteann and FBD Milk Rás throughout the entire history of the event. It is relatively short witth it’s summit being only approx 2 and a half miles (nearly 5 K) from Castleisland.
This climb has two very steep sections, both at either ends with a mid section that is difficult because of the first effort and it is really tough. I would only consider this if I had comact chainset or a mountain bike with correct geaing because this climb feels like you are ascending a wall.

I have to admit, for all my cycling I have only done this once which was recently and I’m not sure that it counts because I cycled this on my Mountain Bike and it had a granny ring in front which came in very handy! Funny enough I really don’t know that I would have managed this without it.
