#fitforfeb week 3

Posted: February 23, 2015 · By: Dave Elton · Comments: 0

A week of 2 halves! The 3rd week started out very sluggish, with Sunday being an awful day of constant rain. When it finally dawned on me it wasn't going to stop, it was all about using up the final hours of day light and trotting around for 8 km until I could embrace the sanctuary of a warm house. [...]

Mid-Kerry at it’s best

A sunny Saturday February morning with a 100K cycle on my mind. I was just out of the restraints of a chest infection and for this reason I decided to try and stay away from the hills which is not too easy being based in Tralee. The decision was to head in the direction of mid-Kerry which offers a beautiful array of route options with some lovely quite roads that are not too busy with traffic. The morning was idyllic for cycling, very calm and almost spring-like with a slight lingering chill, not time for exposing too much skin to the world [...]

Reality starts to bite! With what was a good first week down in #fitforfeb week 2 proved to be a bit more demanding. Things started well enough with a nice sunny Sunday recovery stroll around town and it's park. Later on that day that awful feeling of a cold or flu started to hit me. Nothing more to it, just grin and bear it and do my best! [...]

The climb begins when heading in the direction of Castlemaine from Tralee and after a long straight begins quite swiftly with a left hand turn. It's a modest gradient that mostly remains consistent throughout the climb however there are subtle shifts particularly after the two hairpin turns. The views of Tralee and North Kerry on your left as you ascend can be spectacular on a clear [...]

#FitforFeb first week.

One week down three to go! So that's the first week of my #fitforfeb exercise down. For all of February the idea is to get out and do either a minimum 25 km cycle or an 8 km walk. The 7 days have panned out with a total of 4 days cycling and 3 days of walks. The 4 cycles have taken me 193 km in total with the 3 walks adding up to 32.5 km and included in that was the steep and snowy Caherconree Mountain. [...]
