Mid-Kerry at it’s best

A sunny Saturday February morning with a 100K cycle on my mind. I was just out of the restraints of a chest infection and for this reason I decided to try and stay away from the hills which is not too easy being based in Tralee. The decision was to head in the direction of mid-Kerry which offers a beautiful array of route options with some lovely quite roads that are not too busy with traffic. Curraghmore Climb N-S

Known locally as Tralee Mountain this climb is a stalwart with many local cyclists. It is a mere category 3 but can challenge even those that cycle it regularly. The climb begins when heading in the direction of Castlemaine from Tralee and after a long straight begins quite swiftly with a left hand turn. It's a modest gradient that mostly remains consistent throughout the climb however there are subtle shifts particularly after the two hairpin turns. Dingle Cycling Challenge

The Dingle Cycling Club are spreading the word regarding our annual Dingle Cycling Challenge on Saturday May 5th in conjunction with Feile na Bealtaine. So please come and join us at 9.00am from the marina. The event comprises of 110km of Westkerrys spectacular scenery including the ever so challenging but ever so beautiful Conor Pass and the Slea Head route.
