Sometimes in life the perception of something doesn't always match the reality.
The cycling sportive season is well and truly under way. Compared to when I first got into to club cycling about 6 years ago, there is certainly a great variety, with a sportive or "charity" cycle on offer nearly every weekend from now until October. Back in the day it was more or less expected that a cycling club did their yearly sportive, throw in the Ring of Kerry for the charity side of things and that was it. So times have changed with lots of organisations getting in on the act. But is more really better? [...]
Certainly from Tralee, many of our club spins can have a predicable or at least a well trodden path attached to them, so a trip out East and beyond Castleisland and Scartaglin has a similar feeling to that possibly experienced by Voyager, hurtling beyond Mars and into the relative unknown of the Solar System. Thankfully we do have a bit more experience of this area than Voyager would of Pluto, but certainly the direction of the weekend's route was new to me. [...]
A big contingent head for the Limerick border. Like rabbits popping their heads out into the fresh air after the big bad fox had moved on, we had an unusually big turn out this morning. Plenty of familiar faces coming out of their own bolt holes. Cycling matters got off to a slow start in 2015 for the none "etapers." Well between the dodgy weather, clashing of events and resisting the urge to get back out!? all contributed to the lack of numbers, but today was different! [...]

I for one didn't escape the colds and flu plaguing the good citizens of County Kerry this winter, so my New Years cycling and walking exploits got off to a slow start.
