Certainly from Tralee, many of our club spins can have a predicable or at least a well trodden path attached to them, so a trip out East and beyond Castleisland and Scartaglin has a similar feeling to that possibly experienced by Voyager, hurtling beyond Mars and into the relative unknown of the Solar System. Thankfully we do have a bit more experience of this area than Voyager would of Pluto, but certainly the direction of the weekend's route was new to me. [...]

Mid-Kerry at it’s best

A sunny Saturday February morning with a 100K cycle on my mind. I was just out of the restraints of a chest infection and for this reason I decided to try and stay away from the hills which is not too easy being based in Tralee. The decision was to head in the direction of mid-Kerry which offers a beautiful array of route options with some lovely quite roads that are not too busy with traffic. The Jimmy Duffy and some North Kerry Villages. It's a busy road at times and quite predictable but for a diverse group we worked it very well together. With a few regulars missing, one new rider and two or three coming into the fray after a few weeks out, I was fearing a difficult day for the group. But we [...]

Tralee-Castleisland-Scartaglin-Firies-Ballyfinnane-Tralee The Nitty Gritty: Route: Tralee-Castleisland-Scartaglin-Firies-Ballyfinnane-Tralee Distance: 68km Height gain: 327 metres Difficulty: 5/10 Details: One of the nice things about club and group cycling is the mix of abilities and characters that can come together on a ride. A compact group of ten headed away from The Meadowlands, Tralee on the N 21 towards Castleisland. With a gentle breeze at our backs and and the sun threatening to shine things were looking good. So what [...]
