North Kerry flat lands
Tralee-Ardfert-Lixnaw-Abbeydorney-Tralee
The Nitty Gritty:
Route: Tralee-Ardfert-Lerrig-Lixnaw-Abbeydorney-Lissaneala-Tralee
Distance: 48 km
Height gain: 282 metres
Difficulty: 5/10
Details: The first 8 km takes you from Tralee to Ardfert on the main R551. This road can be quiet if you go mid morning and takes on a hill or 2 but nothing too sevire.
Following the oneway around Ardfert follow the Causeway signs. From here the terrain is quite flat, with hedge rows for shelter.
When you hit Lerrig take a right at the sweeping left bend. Eventually you will cross the R556 before sweeping around into Lixnaw.
At the T junction R557 take a left and proceed to Abbeydorney.
Take a left on R566 in the Tralee direction. For this ride we proceeded straight ahead at the bend about 1 km from Abbeydorney and wound our way onto N67 at Leith Cross.
For a simpler way back to Tralee just follow the R557. This road has a steady climb to Listellick as does the cross county route.
Experience: Starting to get to grips now with the Thursday morning spins again.
To explain it’s a nice relaxed spin from O’Donnells Pub in Tralee once a week. The pace is easy going and the distances rarely exceed 50km.Ideal for Winter. All about keeping this good habit going through to the Spring!
Today’s spin saw just the 2 of us turning out to brave what could of been an extremely wet few hours. Luckily we dodged the worse and the real soaking came back in Tralee on the “skinny mile”.
