Eighteen months of hard work has come to an end. The text is written, the photos taken, the maps drawn out. It’s time to submit everything to the publisher. In our case it was a hard copy and an electronic copy.

Job done? Well not quite! The publisher has to be happy with what they are getting. This involves about 3 months of proof reading, though not continuous, as well as making sure the photos are right and that the cartographer has done a good job with the maps. Once that is complete its the turn of the printer. Hey presto, 8 or so weeks later the first copies are out and ready for inspection.

Once the book is finished and starts to hit the book shelves the work is still far from done as we found out. If you want people to share in your labour of love, you have to get the word out.

Queue newspaper interviews, photographs, podcasts, radio interviews, social media, website promotion and the inevitable book launch.
